Brief presentation of the institution

Sofia University St. Kliment Ohridski is the oldest and most prestigious educational centre in Bulgaria offering over 90 BSc degree programmes and much more MSc degree programmes and PhD programmes in mathematical sciences, natural sciences and humanities. The academic staff of the University consists of about 1800 lecturers including over 600 professors and associate professors. Sofia University has over 25000 students studying in 16 faculties. Sofia University is one of the best scientific centres in the country. The most important characteristic of the research activities of Sofia University is their close relation with the educational process.
The Faculty of Physics of Sofia University is a leading institution in the field of Physics, Engineering Physics, Nuclear Technology and Nuclear Power Engineering, Medical Physics etc. The Faculty takes part in more than 15 projects under the EC RTD Framework Programmes. There are several groups working in the field of Plasma Physics, both low temperature and high temperature plasma for thermonuclear fusion in frame of Associations Euratom, FUSENET and in cooperation with universities in Czech Republik, Germany, Austria, Spain, Portugal.

-Atmospheric pressure gas discharge sources based on propagation of surface waves at plasma-dielectric boundary (surface-wave-sustained discharges). Microwave plasma torch interaction with liquids - modelling and experimental investigation. Application for water treatment, biomedical application, sterilization of temperature sensitive materials and tussues.

-DC diaphragm discharge sources for underwater discharge. Application for water treatment, surface modification in underwater discharge.
